It’s always been weird to me that airlines (or anything with a similar scheme) can just change rules in a way that retroactively reduces value of previously granted/earned rewards.

The same issue applies to “in game currencies” that have functionally equivalent monetary values (and of course the ability to retroactively change the value is why these things do not show the actual monetary “value”)
