Ask HN: Will captive portals be in jeopardy due to browser policies?

It seems all the currents ways of configuring Raspberry Pi wifi through the phone are based in captive portals. At the same time, it looks like browsers, starting by Chrome are restrincting more and more any use but the standard.

I am concerned, that having a product based on this, and been a headless system, at some point they will lose suddenly the ability to be connected to wifi, making it unusable.

Any thought? Are they going to go that far?
