Author here. After building my third MCP server and spending another weekend on deployment configs, I got frustrated enough to build Skyz (skyz.ai).

The tutorial walks through building a weather MCP server that connects to VS Code in 7 minutes. The pattern works for any MCP server - database connectors, API integrations, internal tools.

I've seen teams use this for Notion search, Shopify order lookup, and PostgreSQL analytics. The code is standard Node.js/TypeScript, so no vendor lock-in.
