Microsoft - a company with tens of thousands of engineers and billions of dollars in cash (plus assets), cannot support anything legacy, while concurrently failing to deliver a working product on any modern device. With more and more decisions like this, the year of the Linux desktop will be here sooner than we could have ever imagined.

I have an old printer, maybe 15 years old or so. Linux still prints and Windows doesn't!
