I am currently in North Carolina where the temperatures this week will be 25 degrees above normal.

I am homeless and travel around the states in my minivan. I can tell you something switched this year and it is not good. I am closer and more exposed to the environment than probably 90% of you. I feel sorry for any of you under 40 years old.

I do not know what more I can do for you, but I tried.

At some point surely we hit a scenario with no known stopping point regardless of what we do?

Controlled by however much carbon and methane a completely ice free Arctic and post-glacier territories release, until those emissions peak and drop far enough for some eventual stabilization of temperature.

It isn’t clear to me why our scenarios are still largely defined by our own behavior, given we have clearly pushed ourselves out of our previous equilibrium.

Assuming we have entered a negative feedback loop, and so the acceleration will continue, at what point will we enter a stage of no return?

Pretty much as soon as the feedback loop starts.

We quite simply don't have the technology or resources for planet-scale climate engineering. Even if we did, it should be abundantly clear by now that those with power will do anything to prevent such planetwide measures.

we absolutely do have a couple of such technologies - cloud forming via sulfur emissions and nuclear winter

of course, those are as crude as early surgery, but it is there

and oh boy I'm sure no one will refrain from using them once we reach an obviously critical point, as the subtle ones are already way behind
