The result seems to be a queue of 60,000 emails, steadily hitting my inbox for two days straight.
No amount of settings changes on GitHub makes a difference.

▲Had something similar happen once — easiest fix was just unwatching the repo and setting notifications to participating only. Also worth adding a temporary email filter so your inbox stays usable while it settles down.
